WHO ARE THE HIPHOUSEWIVES?
Michelle and Nancy are both stay at home moms with 5 kids between us. We met at nursery school 6 years ago and discovered that we shared a similar background. Lots of Grateful Dead shows and a love of all kinds of music. We started out tye-dying anything we could get our hands on. We laugh that our kids are going to need therapy because they wanted white underwear and we tye-dyed everything! When our kids would wear their tye-dyes to school, people wanted some of their own, so hence, a hip housewives was formed.
ABOUT OUR TYE-DYES
We start from the premise that the best way to help those in need is to provide income producing work and then let them sort out the rest. The company we use to provide our clothes is actively involved in organizing, financing and supporting sewing cooperatives in Bolivia, Indonesia and Brazil. They also have provided funding for free Cataract surgery for the poor in Bolivia. Also funding open heart surgeries for poor children and school fees in Indonesia.
ABOUT OUR DYESThe type of dye we use is Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes. It provides the deepest, richest color possible. They will not wash out, the molecules of the dye combine with the molecules of the fabric to create a permanent bond - the color becomes part of the fabric. All of our tye-dyes have been pre-washed and the color set with a special agent to insure no color loss. |
